Ultimaker Materials

We’ve developed filaments with superior formulation for incredible print quality. And to optimize every print, there are Cura material profiles that can take care of everything or give you total freedom.

Ultimaker Ecosystem

We’ve spent thousands of hours developing Cura profiles to suit our materials, so you can reliably print with optimized print quality. It means that when you’re ready to go, all you need to do is click print – and everything works seamlessly.

For best results with Engineering filaments, consider the Advanced 3D Printing Kit for added reliability.

Ultimaker Nylon (Polyamide)

Used by many manufacturers worldwide, Nylon (polyamide) is well-known for its impressive durability, high strength-to-weight ratio, flexibility, low friction, and corrosion resistance. Its ability to withstand significant mechanical stress makes it a great choice for 3D printing tools, functional prototypes, and end-use parts.

ULTIMAKER NYLON: ABRASION-RESISTANT AND DURABLE

Ultimaker Nylon is formulated for an enhanced 3D printing experience, serving numerous applications where durability, impact resistance, flexibility, and strength are required. Coupled with our proven material profiles in Cura, Ultimaker Nylon is one of the most reliable filaments for your manufacturing needs.

Reasons to choose Ultimaker Nylon

  • Industrial-grade impact and abrasion resistance
  • Durable
  • High strength-to-weight ratio
  • Low friction coefficient
  • Good corrosion resistance to alkalis and organic chemicals
  • Reduced humidity absorption when compared to other Nylon filaments
  • Seamless 3D printing experience

Shop3D Notes:

Nylon spools come in 0.75kg. 2.85mm diameter and approximately 90m long.

* All individually sold Ultimaker filament now comes with a resealable zipper bag with silica desiccant for proper storage care for prolonged periods of time. *

Nylon is extremely strong and wear resistant. You can immediately tell this is a strong material when trimming off the ends of the filament to insert into the printer. It is perhaps one of the toughest materials available for FDM printing. This is the material to use if you don’t want to compromise on strength.

That said, Nylon is perhaps one of the more difficult materials to print. It is known for water absorption and warping. If left out in the open, nylon will slowly absorb atmospheric moisture, when it does this, the moisture will boil in your nozzle when you print causing small puffs of steam to eminate from your nozzle. This won’t damage the printer, but will affect the print quality a little bit.  To avoid this, seal in a ziploc with desiccant after printing rather than leaving it on the spool holder. (shop3d will provide a complimentry bag + desiccant pack per purchase of Nylon.)

Warping is also sometimes an issue for Nylon, be prepared for it to shrink and the base to warp a little bit after cooling if you don’t enclose your printer. We recommend printing with a heated bed AND blue tape.

Print settings:

Print speed: 35-50mm/s
nozzle temp: 250 C
Bed Temp: 60 C
Fan = 35%
Bed material: Clean Glass
Bed material on difficult prints: Stick Glue or Adhesion sheet
Adhesion Setting: Raft for large parts, Brim for small
