What’s New: The Bambu Lab H2D

April 17, 2025

The new Bambu Lab H2D has been announced, and not only does it feature a larger print volume, but it can now pull double duty with the power of laser and precision craft cutting, for even more of your personal manufacturing needs.

Bigger Prints, Less Waste

Not only is the H2D larger, featuring a total build volume of 350*320*325 mm, but it also has a dual print nozzle setup, a first for Bambu Lab.  Dual nozzles are something we love about the UltiMaker line of printers, and we’re excited to see them added to the Bambu Lab system.

Thanks to the AMS, Bambu Lab printers are not only known for their multicolour capabilities, but also for producing a lot of waste. That’s because multicolour prints involve purging material for smooth colour transitions when swapping between filaments. With dual print nozzles, these multi-colour prints need to purge less, meaning significantly less waste.

Another benefit to dual print nozzles? It’s even easier to do multi-material prints. Each filament has its own dedicated nozzle, meaning you don’t need to worry about your base and support material mixing in the same print head and contaminating each other. Contamination can weaken prints' structural integrity and make supports harder to remove.

Bambu Lab has also solved many of the problems associated with dual-nozzle printers. They’ve added automated calibration, nozzle offset compensation, and a flowblocker to prevent oozing from the idle nozzle.

The H2D is also a great choice for printing engineering materials like ABS, PC, and Nylon, thanks to its actively heated chamber and the AMS 2 Pro’s drying capabilities. The AMS 2 Pro comes with the combo versions of the printer: the H2D Combo and H2D Laser Full Combo.

Cutting: beyond just lasers

At launch, the Bambu Lab H2D has a variety of purchasing options, and we’re really excited about the full combo with AMS 2 Pro + Laser Cutting Capabilities. This comes with the choice of either a 10w or 40w laser that allows you to cut thin sheets of wood, paper, leather, felt, and acrylic. This makes it a powerful tool for makers who are looking for more than just a 3D printer.

The H2D Laser Full Combo replaces the standard glass door and side panels with green acrylic for eye safety, and includes other laser cutting safety features like flame sensors and an emergency stop button. The H2D Laser also comes with an integrated air pump for laser cutting cooling.

As much as we love playing with lasers, sometimes it’s overkill for a project, and some materials can risk burn marks on the surface area. Luckily, there’s also a bladed cutter and a digital plotter that uses pens and markers. This lets you cut paper, vinyl, stickers and other materials you’d normally take to a Cricut.  The Bambu Lab printer’s birds-eye view camera and the new Bambu Suite program make it easy to arrange and lay out your cuts.

Should You Get The Laser Cutter?

To cut or not to cut, that is THE question. With four different versions of the Bambu Lab H2D coming out (Bambu Lab H2D, Bambu Lab H2D Combo, 10w Full Combo and 40w Full Combo), you might be wondering which version to get.

The main factors to consider are:

  • How often you'll use the cutter
  • How much workspace you have
  • If you mind dealing with the mess

Laser cutting is messy. You’re introducing the challenge of smoke and exhaust, and add-ons like the Bambu Lab Smoke Purifier, which come at an added cost. After the cutting, you’re also dealing with soot and residue. These remnants need to be cleaned not just to maintain your printer, but to avoid affecting your prints.

If you’re prepared for the mess, the next thing to consider is whether you would rather have a dedicated laser cutter or an all-in-one package that the Bambu Lab H2D offers. If you’re working in a small space or you just want access to a laser cutter, the Bambu Lab H2D provides excellent value. Otherwise, you might want to consider something like the Snapmaker Ray, a dedicated 40w desktop laser cutter with a larger cutting area.

If you’re still on the fence, Bambu Lab should be offering an upgrade kit to convert non-laser H2Ds to the laser versions later this year, though it won’t be quite as compact since the non-laser version doesn’t have an integrated air pump.

Should I get the 10w or 40w Version?

If you’re set on the H2D laser, the next thing to consider is whether you want the 10w or 40w version.

If you’re primarily looking to use the laser for engraving and don’t plan on cutting material more than ~5mm thick, the 10w version is a budget-friendly solution that can still be upgraded to the 40w version down the line.

If you’re looking to cut thicker materials, you’ll want to get the 40w. With more power also comes speed improvement, as you need fewer passes to completely cut through your material. If you’re not budget-conscious, we recommend getting the 40w for more versatility in what you can cut.

Which Accessories Should I Get?

Bambu Lab has been great about including many spare consumables with their printers, and the H2D is no exception.  Still, there are some accessories not included with the printer that are worth considering.

Hot Ends

The printer comes with 0.4mm hardened steel hotends, which are great for everyday printing. If you want to print at faster speeds or introduce abrasive filaments (such as glitter or carbon fiber), you’ll want to consider upgrading to a larger nozzle size, like a 0.6mm or even 0.8mm hotend.

Larger nozzle sizes can extrude more material at once, allowing for quicker layer deposition. This means you can print parts much faster. This is ideal for large but less detailed prints where speed matters more than fine resolution. If speed is what you’re after, but you don’t want to sacrifice detail, consider upgrading to the 0.4mm high flow hotends instead.

Abrasive filaments have additives that wear down the nozzle over time. While hardened steel is already resistant, a larger diameter nozzle reduces the pressure and friction during extrusion, making it even more durable and less likely to clog.

Note: You will need to purchase two of whichever hotend you decide to switch to, as the H2D currently only supports using two identical hotends.

Plates

If accuracy is what you’re after, Bambu Lab offers a Vision Encoder plate, which is used for calibration.  With it, Bambu Lab claims that you’ll be able to achieve up to 50-micron accuracy, for prints with a perfect fit every time (just make sure you don’t print on the encode plate itself).

Another plate to consider, this time to print on, is a smooth PEI plate. The printer comes with a textured one. Which one to use is mainly up to personal preference, but the plate affects the bottom surface of your prints. The Textured PEI plate offers a matte bottom finish, which gives prints a textured look, and the textured surface provides better grip for materials like ABS that are prone to warping. Parts printed on a smooth PEI plate come out with a shiny, smooth underside which is great when precision is needed or when the appearance of the first layer matters. The textured PEI plate is great for most applications, but sometimes you just want that super flat, smooth surface on your prints.

Smoke Purifier

If you’re purchasing the H2D Laser, strongly consider picking up the Smoke Purifier. You need somewhere for the smoke created during the cutting process to go, and the Smoke Purifier is an easy and convenient solution.

High-temperature filaments need a high-temperature dryer

Many engineering-oriented filaments require higher print temperatures. This also means they require higher temperatures to dry optimally.

While there are filament dryers available for this, Bambu Lab’s new AMS-HT is a great first-party solution.  While the AMS 2 Pro can dry at temperatures up to 65°C, the AMS-HT can reach even higher temperatures of 85°C.  This makes it a great option for printing filaments such as Nylon and polycarbonate.  It can also be used for softer filaments like TPU 95A, which can’t be printed in the AMS or AMS 2 Pro.

Such wow, so much excitement

The team at Shop3D.ca is excited about this new Bambu Lab printer! Multicolour prints are so much better now with way less waste. It’ll be easier than ever to get my project requests approved. I know I’m going to be using the bigger build volume to print an arcade stick and utilize the second nozzle to print support material. (Keep an eye out for my write-up on that project.)

Expected stock dates

We’re expecting very limited stock to arrive in late April or May. Due to our expected low stock, printers will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. We recommend pre-ordering on our site or contacting our sales team for a purchase order.

We’ll be getting a demo unit at both our Mississauga and Vancouver stores. We’ll share the excitement when they arrive. You’re welcome to drop in to check out the new features or wait for our unboxing videos!
