Ultimaker PVA (Polyvinyl Alcohol)

PVA (Polyvinyl Alcohol) is a water soluble support material for multi-extrusion 3D printing. With a good thermal stability, Ultimaker PVA is ideal for printing complex models that require supports for large overhangs, deep internal cavities, and intricate geometries. Designed for a seamless 3D printing experience, our PVA provides good adhesion to both PLA and Nylon. For 3D Printing, PVA is being used as our first support material. It will be used to print in combination with other materials and can be dissolved in water after the print is complete to facilitate support removal and final part post processing.

Dual extrusion info

PVA allows to effortlessly create complex 3D prints by building water soluble support structures.

  1. Submerge: Put your 3D print in cold or warm water depending on the build material.
  2. Rinse: After PVA supports are dissolved, rinse the 3D print to remove any excess PVA solution.
  3. Dry: Let the 3D print dry and apply additional post processing to the build material if necessary.

As a water soluble support material, Ultimaker PVA empowers engineers and designers to create highly detailed surfaces and complex moving mechanical parts in just one run. Coupled with the right build materials and our proven material profiles in Cura for Ultimaker 3, our PVA opens up a whole new world of opportunities for intricate designs and versatile applications.


Shop3D Notes:  

PVA spools come in 750g or a smaller 350g - 2.85mm diameter spool.  Designed for the Ultimaker 3 BB Print Core specifically.  Do not use with AA Print Core.

* PVA absorbs moisture from the environment extremely quickly.  Be sure to store your PVA in a sealed zipper bag (free with Shop3D) with fresh selica dessiccants for best storage practice *

With PVA and dissolvable supports, your PLA and Nylon prints can now bridge perfectly without marring the finish during print removal.  Ultimaker's PVA appears to dissolve much more cleanly and rapidly vs other 3rd party PVA solutions.  It is more rigid and prints better so it is a much more reliable support solution.  The cost of the PVA is quite high.
