Formlabs Fuse 1 SLS 3D Printer (now shipping)

January 26, 2021

Any Formlabs product launch is always impressive because it disrupts the industry. The Fuse 1 is the latest from Formlabs and we think will be the most disruptive system in 2021 because it changes how you think about SLS (Selective Laser Sintering).

Manufacturing parts with SLS technology has a few interesting advantages that FFF and SLA don't have.

1. The materiel properties you get from SLS are the closest to the real deal (injection molding) as it gets. Parts come out nearly isotropic and beat SLA and FFF in terms of mechanical properties.

2. You are able to print with no supports because all of your parts are naturally supported by the unsintered powder in the build chamber.

3. Building on point #2, you are able to place your parts anywhere in the chamber. This means you are able to 3D stack your parts. This really allows you to push the through put per build.

The Form printers have a truly easy to use experience and Formlabs kept that same attitude with the Fuse 1. It's a streamlined workflow, from software to printing to post processing. And with a powder recycling rate of up to 70%, the Fuse 1 is a worthy competitor to the biggest names in the game like 3D Systems and EOS.

Fuse 1 Quick Facts:

  • 165mm x 165mm x 300m build volume for higher throughput and larger parts
  • Nylon 12 powder for robust and durable parts for a wide range of environments
  • Nylon 11 to come soon
  • Competitive power refresh rate of up to 70% recycled powder
  • 60 minute set up time
  • Removable build chamber for high up-time and throughput
  • Dedicated powder cleaning and reclamation station with the Fuse Sift

The Fuse 1 3D printer package starts at a modest $24,000 CAD and removes the barriers of manufacturing affordable SLS Nylon 12 parts. This is an amazing price point for companies looking to get into SLS manufacturing. However, this doesn't mean that it replaces the need for the more industrial machines. The Fuse 1 can work along side your existing SLS machines but provide you and your clients more cost efficient solutions for in-house manufacturing.

The Formlabs workflow, the material science, and the price point of this machine is what sets it apart. What about installation, service and support?

Our team offers the best after-sales support and we have grown the tech team to meet and exceed the expectations of our new and loyal clients. Shop3D will be selling the Fuse 1 and providing support as well. We will be providing on-site installation, service, maintenance, and support for the Fuse 1 for optimal OEE.

The Fuse 1 is available to order today with a lead time of 8 weeks.
