McGill Formula Electric at the Formula SAE Electric 2022!
This year McGill once again took part in the Formula SAE Electric competition! The McGill Formula Electric is an Engineering Design team made up of motivated students united by the challenge of building a 100% electric race car to compete against Universities from around the world.
The Formula SAE competition challenges teams of university undergraduate and graduate students to conceive, design, fabricate, develop and compete with small, formula style vehicles. The competition is an engineering education competition that requires performance demonstration of vehicles in a series of events, both off track and on track against the clock. Each competition gives teams the chance to demonstrate their creativity and engineering skills in comparison to teams from other universities around the world.
For the competition, Shop3D was tasked with 3D printing a VCBOX enclosure which would house electronics within the vehicle and some Cannode Arm Mounts to ensure everything fits together smoothly. The VCBOX and lid were printed using the BCN3D Epsilon W27 in Black Ultimaker PETG due to it's impact resistance and ease of printing. The Cannode Arm Mounts were printed on the Zmorph i500 in Black eSun ABS+, so that they would remain rigid and not warp.
McGill placed 10 out of 55 teams, even without a running car! They also took 1st place in the Cost Event category and were awarded 2nd place by Siemens in the Digital Twin Electrical System Excellence contest! Shop3D is proud to be a part of the event this year and looks forward to working with McGill for further competitions in the future!
