Shop3D Notes

Polycarbonate spools come in 0.75kg. 2.85mm diameter and approximately 90m long.

We are extremely pleased with UM Polycarbonate. Not only is it as strong as advertised,  it is relatively easy to print with surface quality that will surely impress. We printed gears at 20% fill that we couldn't crush in a vice. You can print at standard speeds at various nozzle sizes and have no troubles sticking or removing from the buildplate. This is the experience we're after for professional engineering materials.

Polycarbonate needs to be printed at a much higher bed and nozzle temperature, so it will be able to withstand a bit more heat. The downside is it takes a bit longer to heat up to temperature to start. While it sticks to the bed quite nicely, when it cools, there is a little bit of warping that will occur. More than PLA, and Less than Nylon.

All in all, we highly recommend this material, and this should be a first choice for engineers and people who require extremely resilient parts.

Overview

With UltiMaker PC (polycarbonate) filament, you can print strong and tough parts that retain dimensional stability when subjected to temperatures as high as 110 oC. Our PC is a perfect filament for printing molds, tools, functional prototypes and parts for short-run manufacturing.

UltiMaker PC filament has high strength, toughness, and heat resistant properties. The best printing quality is obtained when used in combination with Cura’s extensively tested material profiles. It’s a great choice for a variety of applications, ranging from mechanically strong outdoor fixtures to aesthetically appealing lampshade designs.

UltiMaker has spent thousands of hours developing Cura profiles to suit our materials, so you can reliably print with optimized print quality. It means that when you’re ready to go, all you need to do is click print – and everything works seamlessly.
