COVID-19 Face Shield Update V2.5 (April 9th, 2020)
April 09, 2020
We've been getting our first batches from the community and some of them are really good and some need some improvement. We also got some feedback from different doctors and after some iteration internally we came out with V2.5:
Here's how it's different:
- Tighter slot. V2.2 had a 0.45mm gap, V2.5 has a 0.3mm gap. As we're getting more and more shields from the community (Thank you!), we realized that some printers were perfect and some no so much. We decreased the gap size to make sure all shields will be usable.
- Minor change to the TPU strap area to remove the bottom and top solid infill
- Made the bend around the TPU strap tighter to hold the filament better.
- Reduced the overall size to fit 200mm x 200mm build plates.
- Moved the lettering to the front of the shield. We found that putting the TPU straps in was difficult because they would often bump into the letters adding to our assembly time
The last change was mad to the PETG sheet. The initial PETG sheet was a 9"x9" sheet and now it is changed to a 12"x10" sheet with some cutouts to facilitate better head movement.

Critical FAQ:
- I've made a bunch of V2.2s, are those still good?
- Yes, we will be doing QC on every single shield that comes in to make sure the front liners get something they can use.
- Can I keep printing V2.2?
- Please switch to V2.5 as soon as you can!
