Form Studio 1 Resin Tank is a strong, flexible tank built for fast print speeds and fine feature resolution. Every tank includes a reusable lid, making it easy to stack tanks and store resin outside of the machine. With a separate tank for each resin color or type, switching materials is as easy as sliding in a new tank.

This tank is optimized for chemical compatibility with Alpha Resins, Flexible 80A Resin V2, and True Cast Resin. It is not compatible with Tough 1500 Resin or materials needing to utilize Open Material Mode. For those materials, use the Form Studio 1 Resin Tank Pro.

Resin Tanks are built to last and deliver consistent performance for at least 75,000 layers of printing — approximately 190 prints using average-height model (39 mm tall), any resin, and 100 µm layer height.

If a tank has been sitting unused for a long time, should I stir the resin before printing?

Yes. After three days without a print, the UI displays a warning that directs the user to stir the resin tank with the plastic scraper included in the accessories box.

Can you replace the tank film?

No, you cannot replace the tank film on either the Form Studio 1 Resin Tank and the Form Studio Resin Tank Pro.

How long do Form Studio 1 tanks last vs typical competitors?

Resin tanks are consumables - they have a lifetime that are primarily driven by the number of layers printed, and the accumulation of wear/damage. Form Studio 1 resin tanks are designed to exceed 75,000+ layers with Formlabs material when maintained correctly. Some competitors numbers:

  • HeyGears (Reflex)- lifetime > 45,000 layers
  • Anycubic (P1) - lifetime 10,000 (FEP film) - 30,000 (ACF film) layers
  • Elegoo Saturn 4 Ultra - 60,000 layers

Why are there two tanks? What is the difference? Why can’t we print any resin in the Standard tank?

The Form Studio 1 Resin Tank uses a film engineered for Formlabs Alpha Resins. It is engineered to deliver fast printing and an improved supported surface finish with Alpha Resins. The tradeoff is the tank film is not chemically compatible with all materials.

Tough 1500 Resin V2 is not compatible with this tank: certain components in those resins damage the film. Many third-party resins carry similar incompatible ingredients. That is the reason for the restriction and why they made the Form Studio 1 Resin Tank Pro

Users making their own settings for Alpha Resins in Resin Tank Pro should expect roughly 60% print speed of what the Standard tank delivers, and the Standard tank costs less. There is no upside to running Alpha Resins in the Pro tank.

What is the expected lifetime of the Standard Resin Tank compared to the Pro tank and Form 4?

Early data places the Standard tank in the same range as the Pro tank and the Form 4 resin tank: roughly 75,000 layers. Some units have already exceeded that figure in testing, but validation is still in progress.

Do customers wash with the lid open or closed?

Closed. This is the recommended setting for two reasons: it reduces IPA evaporation, and it is the safer configuration. An enclosed unit contains IPA vapor. An open unit lets vapor escape into the room, where it could reach an open flame or another ignition source nearby. The enclosed wash is the lower-risk setup, not a hazard.
