Formlabs Tough 2000 Resin for Increased Strength and Performance - 1 Litre Cartridge - Form 4
Tough 2000 Resin is the strongest and stiffest material in the functional family of Tough and Durable Resins, with “2000” representing the material’s tensile modulus. With this reformulation, Tough 2000 simultaneously improved on elongation, strength, and stiffness, which are typically competing mechanical properties.
Technical Specs
  • Reduced brittle failures: Increased elongation by more than 100%.
  • Improved strength and stiffness: Increased flexural strength and flexural
    modulus by roughly 15%.
  • Better performance at elevated temperatures: Increased heat deflection
    temperature by roughly 25%.
  • Professional-looking parts: New dark-grey color.
Applications
  • Strong and stiff prototypes
  • Jigs and fixtures requiring minimal deflection
  • Simulating the strength and stiffness of ABS
Overview
Strength, stiffness and elongation are typically opposing properties. Tough 2000 Resin now uses higher performing components such as those in Rigid Resin and Elastic Resin. This resulted in a complete reformulation and a brand new resin superior to Tough V5.

Below is a direct comparison of the mechanical properties between Tough 2000 and Tough V5:

Mechanical Properties and Comparisons

Supports Print Resolutions: 100 and 50 microns
Curing Period: 60min at 70 degrees

Tough 2000 Sample

Choose Tough 2000 Resin for prototyping strong and sturdy parts that should not bend easily.

Due to its high strength and modulus, Tough 2000 Resin can handle higher stress and will hold its shape better under load compared to Tough 1500 or Durable Resins. When pushed to its stress limit, Tough 2000 parts will bend significantly before ultimately breaking.

All Engineering resins requires UV post-cure when finishing for it to be fully cured, please consider the Form Cure to properly cure your functional resin prints.

Resin Details

Tough 2000 Resin V2 is a rugged material with strength and stiffness comparable to ABS, combining toughness with high temperature and creep resistance. Tough 2000 Resin V2 excels in heavy-duty applications and delivers highly functional prototypes and end-use parts that resist shattering, deformation, and long-term wear. With a 79% elongation at break and a heat deflection temperature (HDT) of 70 °C, parts maintain structural integrity under mechanical and environmental stress. The new formulation is darker with a matte finish, for presentation-ready parts with enhanced details and a smooth finish. Tough 2000 Resin V2 is a new material formulation that leverages the technology of Form 4 Series printers to deliver 3x higher fracture toughness, improved temperature resistance, material longevity, and aesthetics compared to the previous version.
Applications

Robust enclosures, factory-floor jigs & fixtures; ABS-like, 3× fracture toughness vs V1

Special Notes

Wash

  • For best surface finish, Formlabs recommends allowing parts printed in Tough 2000 Resin V2 to air dry for at least 10 minutes prior to handling or post-curing. You can also use compressed air to speed up the drying process.
  • Formlabs does not recommend using Resin Washing Solution to wash parts printed in this resin.

Cure

  • Cure V2: Formlabs recommends post-curing for either 12 minutes at 70 °C to reduce surface tack and improve mechanical properties, or for 12 minutes at 40 °C to prevent warpage.

Notes

  • Formlabs Engineering resins come in a resealable and refillable 1 Litre Cartridge.
  • Resins should be handled in accordance with Formlabs protocols.
  • A new resin tank should be used per Resin colour/type for your Form 4 printer.
  • Never mix the use of resin colours or types with a resin tank.
