Top Features

Performance PLA - Bambu AMS Compatible

PLA (polylactic acid) is our most user-friendly 3D printing material. It prints at relatively low temperatures, has excellent dimensional stability, and works reliably on almost any open-material 3D printer.

At Matter3D, we treat PLA as more than just a “beginner” plastic. Our PLA family is built for consistency, strength, and real-world usability, with multiple formulations tuned for different applications—from cost-effective essentials up to tougher, higher-heat performance grades and composite-filled options.

All Matter3D PLA is compounded and extruded in Victoria, British Columbia using premium North American resin. Every batch is dried, filtered, and laser-monitored during extrusion to deliver smooth, predictable printing for hobbyists, print farms, and engineering teams.

Performance PLA is engineered for functional printing where standard PLA falls short. Using a tougher impact modifier system and a heat-stabilized formulation, this material offers higher heat deflection, improved durability, and better real-world performance while still printing as easily as PLA.

Ideal for engineering prototypes, brackets, mounts, and higher-load applications.

Key Features

  • Easy to print on open and enclosed printers
  • Low warp and excellent dimensional stability
  • Good surface detail and high-quality visual finish
  • Available in multiple engineered formulations (Essentials, Basics, Performance, CF, Matte, Silk, ESD)
  • Tight diameter tolerance with continuous laser measurement
  • Made in Canada using premium North American base resins
  • Suitable for beginners, professionals, and high-volume print farms
  • Enhanced impact-modified formulation
  • Higher heat resistance than standard PLA
  • Excellent mechanical strength and durability
  • Low warp and reliable layer bonding
  • Suitable for functional parts and light engineering

Matter3D’s Performance PLA is precision extruded and immediately vacuum-sealed before shipping with desiccant for protection against moisture. This product is available in 1 kg spools (2.2 lbs) and can also be ordered on a 1kg Master Spool. Matter3D always recommends drying your filaments before use.

This filament is ideal for use with practically all desktop 3D printers, such as Makerbot, Prusa, Ender, Flashforge, Anet, Creality, Lulzbot, Makergear, Ultimaker, or any other printer accepting 1.75 mm or 2.85 mm filament.

We do NOT recommend this material for use in the Ultimaker Material handling station, or Bambu Labs AMS due to the wider cardboard spools.

Proudly compounded and manufactured in Canada!

Print Settings

General Print Settings for Matter3D PLA

These are baseline guidelines for our PLA family. Individual variants (Basics, CF, Performance, etc.) may have specific recommendations listed in the product’s own “Print Settings” section.

  • Nozzle Temperature (General Range): 200–225 °C
  • Bed Temperature: 40–65 °C (often optional with good adhesion surfaces)
  • Cooling Fan: 50–100% after the first few layers
  • Print Speed: 40–80 mm/s (slower for fine detail, faster for production)
  • Layer Height: 0.12–0.28 mm for most use cases
  • Drying (if needed): 40–50 °C for 4–6 hours

For best results, start in the middle of these ranges, print a small test part, and then fine-tune nozzle temperature and speed in small increments based on your specific printer and environment.

  • Nozzle: 215–230 °C
  • Bed: 65 °C
  • Cooling: 40–80%
  • Speed: >40 mm/s
  • Drying: 45–50 °C for 4–6 hours

Technical Specifications

  • Tensile Strength: 65–70 MPa
  • Impact Strength: 40–60 J/m
  • Heat Deflection Temp (HDT): 75 °C

Annealing

Any parts made with Matter3D’s Performance PLA can be heat treated (annealed) to improve the material's physical properties. To anneal a printed part, heat the part at 80 – 130 °C for up to 30 minutes by either submerging in hot water or by baking in an oven.
